About the project

EurOrçamento is an open-source web app for managing personal finances in euros. It supports income and expense records, transaction categories and balance tracking by period.

Problem

While living in Europe, I needed to track euro expenses separately from my finances in Brazil. The app I was using did not support my workflow across both currencies well, making it harder to organize records and check the available balance.

Solution

I built an application dedicated to euro transactions. Its dashboard summarizes income, expenses and balance, while the transaction list supports search and spreadsheet export. A Wise account balance can also be included in the displayed total.

My role

I built the entire project and made the source code available on GitHub. My work covered the interface, transaction and category modeling, authentication, data storage and deployment.

Key features

  • Income and expense records with description, amount, category and date
  • Income, expense and balance summaries by period
  • Category creation and editing
  • Transaction search and pagination
  • Excel export
  • Optional inclusion of a Wise account balance in the total
  • Email and password sign-in

Architecture and technical decisions

The application uses React and TypeScript, with Styled Components for styling. Firebase provides authentication and database services, reducing the need to maintain a custom backend.

During development, MirageJS mocked the API so the interface could progress before the persistent storage integration was ready. Forms use Yup validation, and Excel files are generated in the browser with the XLSX library.

Outcome

Deployed and used for my personal financial tracking, with source code available on GitHub.

Technologies

React, TypeScript, Firebase, Styled Components, Yup and XLSX.
